How Batteries Work?

Keep the lights on, protect your family, and secure your home during blackouts. Our 100-year-old utility grid is expensive, dirty, and susceptible to extreme weather. As blackouts become the new normal, a home battery backs you up with reliable, solar energy for your home and family.

Solar Batteries can detect an outage, disconnect from the grid, and automatically restore power to your home in a fraction of a second. Your chosen lights and appliances will continue to run without interruption. You may not even notice the power went out.

Solar Battery FAQs

Powered and Protected

In California, local regulations allow you to do more with your battery. To optimize your system's overall value, batteries automatically help customers get the most out of their solar system by capturing their solar generated electricity and “shifting” it to when they need it most. This innovative solution optimizes potential savings by increasing self consumption during peak hours when rates are highest and reducing low-value exports back to the grid.

Q. How do batteries work with California's New Net Electric Metering (NEM 3.0) system?

A.

Your home battery allows you to store the electricity your solar energy system produces during the day and use it when you need it most—such as in the evening during the time of use (TOU) peak pricing or when the electric grid fails due to an extreme weather event or physical damage to the equipment.

Q. Are there Incentive for having a Home Battery Available?

A.

One such incentive is net metering, which credits any excess power your solar system generates back to your electric bill. However, in California, Most major utility companies have chosen to adopt the Time-of-Use (TOU) rates, which complicate how your net metering credits are calculated. Solar Batteries can buffer you from peak TOU rates so that you may save even more on your electric bill.

Q. Where will my Home Battery be placed?

The installation of a home battery is a relatively simple process. The system is mounted on a wall—typically next to your electrical panel, inside your garage or outside your home.

A.

Q. Will my home battery allow me to go off the grid?

A.

Home batteries are designed to keep you on the grid during normal service times while providing reliable backup when the sun isn’t shining or during an outage. This is the most reliable and economical way to use your home battery system. Storage back up is available with an extra battery to your system.
